9. Surah At-Tawba

اِنْفِرُوْا خِفَافًا وَّ ثِقَالًا وَّ جَاهِدُوْا بِاَمْوَالِكُمْ وَ اَنْفُسِكُمْ فِیْ سَبِیْلِ اللّٰهِ١ؕ ذٰلِكُمْ خَیْرٌ لَّكُمْ اِنْ كُنْتُمْ تَعْلَمُوْنَ ﴿٤١﴾Open ayah 9:41 in the Quran reader

March forth whether light or heavy, and strive in the way of Allah with your belongings and your lives. That is best for you if you only knew it.

لَوْ كَانَ عَرَضًا قَرِیْبًا وَّ سَفَرًا قَاصِدًا لَّاتَّبَعُوْكَ وَ لٰكِنْۢ بَعُدَتْ عَلَیْهِمُ الشُّقَّةُ١ؕ وَ سَیَحْلِفُوْنَ بِاللّٰهِ لَوِ اسْتَطَعْنَا لَخَرَجْنَا مَعَكُمْ١ۚ یُهْلِكُوْنَ اَنْفُسَهُمْ١ۚ وَ اللّٰهُ یَعْلَمُ اِنَّهُمْ لَكٰذِبُوْنَ۠ ﴿٤٢﴾Open ayah 9:42 in the Quran reader

Were it again at hand or a short journey, they would have surely followed you, but the distance seemed too far to them. Still they will swear by Allah: 'If only we could, we would surely have gone forth with you.' They merely bring ruin upon themselves. Allah knows well that they are liars.

عَفَا اللّٰهُ عَنْكَ١ۚ لِمَ اَذِنْتَ لَهُمْ حَتّٰى یَتَبَیَّنَ لَكَ الَّذِیْنَ صَدَقُوْا وَ تَعْلَمَ الْكٰذِبِیْنَ ﴿٤٣﴾Open ayah 9:43 in the Quran reader

Allah forgives you! Why did you give them leave to stay behind before it became clear to you as to whom were truthful and who were liars.

لَا یَسْتَاْذِنُكَ الَّذِیْنَ یُؤْمِنُوْنَ بِاللّٰهِ وَ الْیَوْمِ الْاٰخِرِ اَنْ یُّجَاهِدُوْا بِاَمْوَالِهِمْ وَ اَنْفُسِهِمْ١ؕ وَ اللّٰهُ عَلِیْمٌۢ بِالْمُتَّقِیْنَ ﴿٤٤﴾Open ayah 9:44 in the Quran reader

Those who believe in Allah and the Last Day will never ask you leave to be excused from striving (in the cause of Allah) with their belongings and their lives. Allah fully knows the God-fearing.

اِنَّمَا یَسْتَاْذِنُكَ الَّذِیْنَ لَا یُؤْمِنُوْنَ بِاللّٰهِ وَ الْیَوْمِ الْاٰخِرِ وَ ارْتَابَتْ قُلُوْبُهُمْ فَهُمْ فِیْ رَیْبِهِمْ یَتَرَدَّدُوْنَ ﴿٤٥﴾Open ayah 9:45 in the Quran reader

It is only those who do not believe in Allah and the Last Day, and whose hearts are filled with doubt that seeks exemption from striving (in the cause of Allah). They keep tossing to and fro in their doubt.

وَ لَوْ اَرَادُوا الْخُرُوْجَ لَاَعَدُّوْا لَهٗ عُدَّةً وَّ لٰكِنْ كَرِهَ اللّٰهُ انْۢبِعَاثَهُمْ فَثَبَّطَهُمْ وَ قِیْلَ اقْعُدُوْا مَعَ الْقٰعِدِیْنَ ﴿٤٦﴾Open ayah 9:46 in the Quran reader

Had they truly intended to march forth to fight, they would have certainly made some preparation for it. But Allah was averse to their going forth, so He made them lag behind, and they were told: 'Stay behind with those that are staying behind.

لَوْ خَرَجُوْا فِیْكُمْ مَّا زَادُوْكُمْ اِلَّا خَبَالًا وَّ لَاۡاَوْضَعُوْا خِلٰلَكُمْ یَبْغُوْنَكُمُ الْفِتْنَةَ١ۚ وَ فِیْكُمْ سَمّٰعُوْنَ لَهُمْ١ؕ وَ اللّٰهُ عَلِیْمٌۢ بِالظّٰلِمِیْنَ ﴿٤٧﴾Open ayah 9:47 in the Quran reader

Had they gone forth with you, they would have only added to your trouble, and would have run about in your midst seeking to stir up sedition between you, whereas there are among you some who are prone to give ears to them. Allah knows well the wrong-doers.

لَقَدِ ابْتَغَوُا الْفِتْنَةَ مِنْ قَبْلُ وَ قَلَّبُوْا لَكَ الْاُمُوْرَ حَتّٰى جَآءَ الْحَقُّ وَ ظَهَرَ اَمْرُ اللّٰهِ وَ هُمْ كٰرِهُوْنَ ﴿٤٨﴾Open ayah 9:48 in the Quran reader

Surely they sought even earlier to stir up sedition, and turned things upside down to frustrate you until the truth came and the decree of Allah appeared however hateful this may have been to them.

وَ مِنْهُمْ مَّنْ یَّقُوْلُ ائْذَنْ لِّیْ وَ لَا تَفْتِنِّیْ١ؕ اَلَا فِی الْفِتْنَةِ سَقَطُوْا١ؕ وَ اِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ لَمُحِیْطَةٌۢ بِالْكٰفِرِیْنَ ﴿٤٩﴾Open ayah 9:49 in the Quran reader

And among them is he who says: 'Grant me leave to stay behind, and do not expose me to temptation.' Lo! They have already fallen into temptation. Surely the Hell encompasses the unbelievers.

اِنْ تُصِبْكَ حَسَنَةٌ تَسُؤْهُمْ١ۚ وَ اِنْ تُصِبْكَ مُصِیْبَةٌ یَّقُوْلُوْا قَدْ اَخَذْنَاۤ اَمْرَنَا مِنْ قَبْلُ وَ یَتَوَلَّوْا وَّ هُمْ فَرِحُوْنَ ﴿٥٠﴾Open ayah 9:50 in the Quran reader

If good fortune befalls you, it vexes them; and if an affliction befalls you, they turn away in jubilation and say: 'We have taken due care of our affairs in good time.'

قُلْ لَّنْ یُّصِیْبَنَاۤ اِلَّا مَا كَتَبَ اللّٰهُ لَنَا١ۚ هُوَ مَوْلٰىنَا١ۚ وَ عَلَى اللّٰهِ فَلْیَتَوَكَّلِ الْمُؤْمِنُوْنَ ﴿٥١﴾Open ayah 9:51 in the Quran reader

Say: 'Nothing will befall us except what Allah has decreed for us; He is our Protector.' Let the believers, then, put all their trust in Allah.

قُلْ هَلْ تَرَبَّصُوْنَ بِنَاۤ اِلَّاۤ اِحْدَى الْحُسْنَیَیْنِ١ؕ وَ نَحْنُ نَتَرَبَّصُ بِكُمْ اَنْ یُّصِیْبَكُمُ اللّٰهُ بِعَذَابٍ مِّنْ عِنْدِهٖۤ اَوْ بِاَیْدِیْنَا١ۖ٘ فَتَرَبَّصُوْۤا اِنَّا مَعَكُمْ مُّتَرَبِّصُوْنَ ﴿٥٢﴾Open ayah 9:52 in the Quran reader

Tell them: 'What you await to befall upon us is nothing but one of the two good things! And what we await for you is that Allah visits you with chastisement from Him or chastise you at our hands. So continue waiting; we too shall wait with you.'

قُلْ اَنْفِقُوْا طَوْعًا اَوْ كَرْهًا لَّنْ یُّتَقَبَّلَ مِنْكُمْ١ؕ اِنَّكُمْ كُنْتُمْ قَوْمًا فٰسِقِیْنَ ﴿٥٣﴾Open ayah 9:53 in the Quran reader

Tell them: 'Whether you spend you money willingly or unwillingly, it shall not find acceptance (with Allah) for you are an evil-doing folk.'

وَ مَا مَنَعَهُمْ اَنْ تُقْبَلَ مِنْهُمْ نَفَقٰتُهُمْ اِلَّاۤ اَنَّهُمْ كَفَرُوْا بِاللّٰهِ وَ بِرَسُوْلِهٖ وَ لَا یَاْتُوْنَ الصَّلٰوةَ اِلَّا وَ هُمْ كُسَالٰى وَ لَا یُنْفِقُوْنَ اِلَّا وَ هُمْ كٰرِهُوْنَ ﴿٥٤﴾Open ayah 9:54 in the Quran reader

Nothing prevents that their expending be accepted except that they disbelieve in Allah and His Messenger, and whenever they come to the Prayer they do so lazily, and whenever they spend they do so grudgingly.

فَلَا تُعْجِبْكَ اَمْوَالُهُمْ وَ لَاۤ اَوْلَادُهُمْ١ؕ اِنَّمَا یُرِیْدُ اللّٰهُ لِیُعَذِّبَهُمْ بِهَا فِی الْحَیٰوةِ الدُّنْیَا وَ تَزْهَقَ اَنْفُسُهُمْ وَ هُمْ كٰفِرُوْنَ ﴿٥٥﴾Open ayah 9:55 in the Quran reader

Let neither their riches nor their children excite your admiration. Allah only wants to chastise them through these things in the present life, and to cause them to die while they are unbelievers.

وَ یَحْلِفُوْنَ بِاللّٰهِ اِنَّهُمْ لَمِنْكُمْ١ؕ وَ مَا هُمْ مِّنْكُمْ وَ لٰكِنَّهُمْ قَوْمٌ یَّفْرَقُوْنَ ﴿٥٦﴾Open ayah 9:56 in the Quran reader

They swear by Allah that they belong with you whereas they are certainly not of you. They are merely a people who dread you.

لَوْ یَجِدُوْنَ مَلْجَاً اَوْ مَغٰرٰتٍ اَوْ مُدَّخَلًا لَّوَلَّوْا اِلَیْهِ وَ هُمْ یَجْمَحُوْنَ ﴿٥٧﴾Open ayah 9:57 in the Quran reader

If they could find any shelter or any cavern, or any retreat, they would turn around and rush headlong into it.

وَ مِنْهُمْ مَّنْ یَّلْمِزُكَ فِی الصَّدَقٰتِ١ۚ فَاِنْ اُعْطُوْا مِنْهَا رَضُوْا وَ اِنْ لَّمْ یُعْطَوْا مِنْهَاۤ اِذَا هُمْ یَسْخَطُوْنَ ﴿٥٨﴾Open ayah 9:58 in the Quran reader

(O Prophet!) Some of them find fault with you in the distribution of alms. If they are given something thereof they are pleased, and if they are given nothing they are angry.

وَ لَوْ اَنَّهُمْ رَضُوْا مَاۤ اٰتٰىهُمُ اللّٰهُ وَ رَسُوْلُهٗ١ۙ وَ قَالُوْا حَسْبُنَا اللّٰهُ سَیُؤْتِیْنَا اللّٰهُ مِنْ فَضْلِهٖ وَ رَسُوْلُهٗۤ١ۙ اِنَّاۤ اِلَى اللّٰهِ رٰغِبُوْنَ۠ ﴿٥٩﴾Open ayah 9:59 in the Quran reader

Would that they were content with what Allah and His Messenger gave them, and were to say: 'Allah suffices for us, and Allah will give us out of His bounty and so will His Messenger. It is to Allah alone that we turn with hope.'

اِنَّمَا الصَّدَقٰتُ لِلْفُقَرَآءِ وَ الْمَسٰكِیْنِ وَ الْعٰمِلِیْنَ عَلَیْهَا وَ الْمُؤَلَّفَةِ قُلُوْبُهُمْ وَ فِی الرِّقَابِ وَ الْغٰرِمِیْنَ وَ فِیْ سَبِیْلِ اللّٰهِ وَ ابْنِ السَّبِیْلِ١ؕ فَرِیْضَةً مِّنَ اللّٰهِ١ؕ وَ اللّٰهُ عَلِیْمٌ حَكِیْمٌ ﴿٦٠﴾Open ayah 9:60 in the Quran reader

The alms are meant only for the poor and the needy and those who are in charge thereof, those whose hearts are to be reconciled; and to free those in bondage, and to help those burdened with debt, and for expenditure in the way of Allah and for the wayfarer. This is an obligation from Allah. Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.

وَ مِنْهُمُ الَّذِیْنَ یُؤْذُوْنَ النَّبِیَّ وَ یَقُوْلُوْنَ هُوَ اُذُنٌ١ؕ قُلْ اُذُنُ خَیْرٍ لَّكُمْ یُؤْمِنُ بِاللّٰهِ وَ یُؤْمِنُ لِلْمُؤْمِنِیْنَ وَ رَحْمَةٌ لِّلَّذِیْنَ اٰمَنُوْا مِنْكُمْ١ؕ وَ الَّذِیْنَ یُؤْذُوْنَ رَسُوْلَ اللّٰهِ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ اَلِیْمٌ ﴿٦١﴾Open ayah 9:61 in the Quran reader

And of them there are some who distress the Prophet, saying: 'He is all ears.' Tell them: 'He listens for your good. He believes in Allah and trusts the believers. And is mercy for those of you who believe. A painful punishment lies in store for those who cause distress to the Messenger of Allah.'

یَحْلِفُوْنَ بِاللّٰهِ لَكُمْ لِیُرْضُوْكُمْ١ۚ وَ اللّٰهُ وَ رَسُوْلُهٗۤ اَحَقُّ اَنْ یُّرْضُوْهُ اِنْ كَانُوْا مُؤْمِنِیْنَ ﴿٦٢﴾Open ayah 9:62 in the Quran reader

They swear by Allah to please you, while it is Allah and His Messenger whose pleasure they should seek if they truly believe.

اَلَمْ یَعْلَمُوْۤا اَنَّهٗ مَنْ یُّحَادِدِ اللّٰهَ وَ رَسُوْلَهٗ فَاَنَّ لَهٗ نَارَ جَهَنَّمَ خَالِدًا فِیْهَا١ؕ ذٰلِكَ الْخِزْیُ الْعَظِیْمُ ﴿٦٣﴾Open ayah 9:63 in the Quran reader

Are they not aware that Hell-fire awaits whosoever opposes Allah and His Messenger, and in it he shall abide? That surely is the great humiliation.

یَحْذَرُ الْمُنٰفِقُوْنَ اَنْ تُنَزَّلَ عَلَیْهِمْ سُوْرَةٌ تُنَبِّئُهُمْ بِمَا فِیْ قُلُوْبِهِمْ١ؕ قُلِ اسْتَهْزِءُوْا١ۚ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ مُخْرِجٌ مَّا تَحْذَرُوْنَ ﴿٦٤﴾Open ayah 9:64 in the Quran reader

The hypocrites are afraid lest a surah should be revealed concerning them intimating to the believers what lay hidden in their hearts. Them (O Prophet!):“Continue your mockery if you will. Allah will surely being to light all that disclosure of which you dread.'

وَ لَئِنْ سَاَلْتَهُمْ لَیَقُوْلُنَّ اِنَّمَا كُنَّا نَخُوْضُ وَ نَلْعَبُ١ؕ قُلْ اَبِاللّٰهِ وَ اٰیٰتِهٖ وَ رَسُوْلِهٖ كُنْتُمْ تَسْتَهْزِءُوْنَ ﴿٦٥﴾Open ayah 9:65 in the Quran reader

Should you question them what they were talking about they would certainly say: 'We were merely jesting and being playful. Tell them: 'Was it Allah and His Messenger and His revelation that you were mocking?

لَا تَعْتَذِرُوْا قَدْ كَفَرْتُمْ بَعْدَ اِیْمَانِكُمْ١ؕ اِنْ نَّعْفُ عَنْ طَآئِفَةٍ مِّنْكُمْ نُعَذِّبْ طَآئِفَةًۢ بِاَنَّهُمْ كَانُوْا مُجْرِمِیْنَ۠ ﴿٦٦﴾Open ayah 9:66 in the Quran reader

Now, make no excuses. The truth is, you have fallen into unbelief after having believed. Even if We were to forgive some of you. We will surely chastise other because they are guilty.

اَلْمُنٰفِقُوْنَ وَ الْمُنٰفِقٰتُ بَعْضُهُمْ مِّنْۢ بَعْضٍ١ۘ یَاْمُرُوْنَ بِالْمُنْكَرِ وَ یَنْهَوْنَ عَنِ الْمَعْرُوْفِ وَ یَقْبِضُوْنَ اَیْدِیَهُمْ١ؕ نَسُوا اللّٰهَ فَنَسِیَهُمْ١ؕ اِنَّ الْمُنٰفِقِیْنَ هُمُ الْفٰسِقُوْنَ ﴿٦٧﴾Open ayah 9:67 in the Quran reader

The hypocrites, be they men or women, are all alike. They enjoin what is evil, and forbid what is good, and withhold their hands from doing good. They forgot Allah, so Allah also forgot them. Surely the hypocrites are wicked.

وَعَدَ اللّٰهُ الْمُنٰفِقِیْنَ وَ الْمُنٰفِقٰتِ وَ الْكُفَّارَ نَارَ جَهَنَّمَ خٰلِدِیْنَ فِیْهَا١ؕ هِیَ حَسْبُهُمْ١ۚ وَ لَعَنَهُمُ اللّٰهُ١ۚ وَ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ مُّقِیْمٌۙ ﴿٦٨﴾Open ayah 9:68 in the Quran reader

has promised Hell-Fire to the hypocrites, both men, and women, and to the unbelievers. They shall abide in it: a sufficient recompense for them. Allah has cursed them, and theirs is a lasting torment.

كَالَّذِیْنَ مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْ كَانُوْۤا اَشَدَّ مِنْكُمْ قُوَّةً وَّ اَكْثَرَ اَمْوَالًا وَّ اَوْلَادًا١ؕ فَاسْتَمْتَعُوْا بِخَلَاقِهِمْ فَاسْتَمْتَعْتُمْ بِخَلَاقِكُمْ كَمَا اسْتَمْتَعَ الَّذِیْنَ مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْ بِخَلَاقِهِمْ وَ خُضْتُمْ كَالَّذِیْ خَاضُوْا١ؕ اُولٰٓئِكَ حَبِطَتْ اَعْمَالُهُمْ فِی الدُّنْیَا وَ الْاٰخِرَةِ١ۚ وَ اُولٰٓئِكَ هُمُ الْخٰسِرُوْنَ ﴿٦٩﴾Open ayah 9:69 in the Quran reader

Yours ways are like the ways of those who have gone before you. They were mightier than you in power, and more abundant in riches and children. They enjoyed their lot for a while as you have enjoyed your lot, and you also engaged in idle talk as they did. They works have come to a naught in this world and in the Hereafter they are surely the losers.

اَلَمْ یَاْتِهِمْ نَبَاُ الَّذِیْنَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ قَوْمِ نُوْحٍ وَّ عَادٍ وَّ ثَمُوْدَ١ۙ۬ وَ قَوْمِ اِبْرٰهِیْمَ وَ اَصْحٰبِ مَدْیَنَ وَ الْمُؤْتَفِكٰتِ١ؕ اَتَتْهُمْ رُسُلُهُمْ بِالْبَیِّنٰتِ١ۚ فَمَا كَانَ اللّٰهُ لِیَظْلِمَهُمْ وَ لٰكِنْ كَانُوْۤا اَنْفُسَهُمْ یَظْلِمُوْنَ ﴿٧٠﴾Open ayah 9:70 in the Quran reader

They have not heard the accounts of those who came before them – of the people of Noah and 'Ad and Thamud, and the people of Abraham and the dwellers of Madyan (Midian), and the Ruined Cities? Their Messengers came to them with clear signs. Then, it was not Allah Who caused them any wrong; they rather wronged themselves.

وَ الْمُؤْمِنُوْنَ وَ الْمُؤْمِنٰتُ بَعْضُهُمْ اَوْلِیَآءُ بَعْضٍ١ۘ یَاْمُرُوْنَ بِالْمَعْرُوْفِ وَ یَنْهَوْنَ عَنِ الْمُنْكَرِ وَ یُقِیْمُوْنَ الصَّلٰوةَ وَ یُؤْتُوْنَ الزَّكٰوةَ وَ یُطِیْعُوْنَ اللّٰهَ وَ رَسُوْلَهٗ١ؕ اُولٰٓئِكَ سَیَرْحَمُهُمُ اللّٰهُ١ؕ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ عَزِیْزٌ حَكِیْمٌ ﴿٧١﴾Open ayah 9:71 in the Quran reader

The believers, both men and women, are allies of one another. They enjoin good, forbid evil, establish Prayer, pay Zakah, and obey Allah and His Messenger. Surely Allah will show mercy to them. Allah is All-Mighty, All-Wise.

وَعَدَ اللّٰهُ الْمُؤْمِنِیْنَ وَ الْمُؤْمِنٰتِ جَنّٰتٍ تَجْرِیْ مِنْ تَحْتِهَا الْاَنْهٰرُ خٰلِدِیْنَ فِیْهَا وَ مَسٰكِنَ طَیِّبَةً فِیْ جَنّٰتِ عَدْنٍ١ؕ وَ رِضْوَانٌ مِّنَ اللّٰهِ اَكْبَرُ١ؕ ذٰلِكَ هُوَ الْفَوْزُ الْعَظِیْمُ۠ ﴿٧٢﴾Open ayah 9:72 in the Quran reader

Allah has promised the believing men and believing women Gardens beneath which rivers flow. They shall abide in it. There are delightful dwelling places for them in the Gardens of Eternity. They shall, above all, enjoy the good pleasure of Allah. That is the great achievement.

یٰۤاَیُّهَا النَّبِیُّ جَاهِدِ الْكُفَّارَ وَ الْمُنٰفِقِیْنَ وَ اغْلُظْ عَلَیْهِمْ١ؕ وَ مَاْوٰىهُمْ جَهَنَّمُ١ؕ وَ بِئْسَ الْمَصِیْرُ ﴿٧٣﴾Open ayah 9:73 in the Quran reader

O Prophet! Strive against the unbelievers and the hypocrites, and be severe to them. Hell shall be their abode – what an evil destination!

یَحْلِفُوْنَ بِاللّٰهِ مَا قَالُوْا١ؕ وَ لَقَدْ قَالُوْا كَلِمَةَ الْكُفْرِ وَ كَفَرُوْا بَعْدَ اِسْلَامِهِمْ وَ هَمُّوْا بِمَا لَمْ یَنَالُوْا١ۚ وَ مَا نَقَمُوْۤا اِلَّاۤ اَنْ اَغْنٰىهُمُ اللّٰهُ وَ رَسُوْلُهٗ مِنْ فَضْلِهٖ١ۚ فَاِنْ یَّتُوْبُوْا یَكُ خَیْرًا لَّهُمْ١ۚ وَ اِنْ یَّتَوَلَّوْا یُعَذِّبْهُمُ اللّٰهُ عَذَابًا اَلِیْمًا١ۙ فِی الدُّنْیَا وَ الْاٰخِرَةِ١ۚ وَ مَا لَهُمْ فِی الْاَرْضِ مِنْ وَّلِیٍّ وَّ لَا نَصِیْرٍ ﴿٧٤﴾Open ayah 9:74 in the Quran reader

They swear by Allah that they said nothing blasphemous whereas they indeed blasphemed, and fell into unbelief after believing, and also had evil designs, which they could not carry into effect. They are spiteful against Muslims for no other reason than that Allah and His Messenger have enriched them through His bounty! So, if they repent, it will be to their own good. But if they turn away, Allah will sternly punish them in this world and in the Hereafter. None in the world will be able to protect or help them.

وَ مِنْهُمْ مَّنْ عٰهَدَ اللّٰهَ لَئِنْ اٰتٰىنَا مِنْ فَضْلِهٖ لَنَصَّدَّقَنَّ وَ لَنَكُوْنَنَّ مِنَ الصّٰلِحِیْنَ ﴿٧٥﴾Open ayah 9:75 in the Quran reader

Some of them made a covenant with Allah: 'If Allah gives us out of His bounty, we will give alms and act righteously.'

فَلَمَّاۤ اٰتٰىهُمْ مِّنْ فَضْلِهٖ بَخِلُوْا بِهٖ وَ تَوَلَّوْا وَّ هُمْ مُّعْرِضُوْنَ ﴿٧٦﴾Open ayah 9:76 in the Quran reader

Then, when He gave them out of His bounty they grew niggardly and turned their backs (upon their covenant)

فَاَعْقَبَهُمْ نِفَاقًا فِیْ قُلُوْبِهِمْ اِلٰى یَوْمِ یَلْقَوْنَهٗ بِمَاۤ اَخْلَفُوا اللّٰهَ مَا وَعَدُوْهُ وَ بِمَا كَانُوْا یَكْذِبُوْنَ ﴿٧٧﴾Open ayah 9:77 in the Quran reader

So He caused hypocrisy to take root in their hearts and to remain therein until the Day they meet him because they broke their promise with Allah and because they lied.

اَلَمْ یَعْلَمُوْۤا اَنَّ اللّٰهَ یَعْلَمُ سِرَّهُمْ وَ نَجْوٰىهُمْ وَ اَنَّ اللّٰهَ عَلَّامُ الْغُیُوْبِۚ ﴿٧٨﴾Open ayah 9:78 in the Quran reader

Are they not aware that Allah knows what they conceal and what they secretly discuss, and that Allah has full knowledge even of All that is beyond the reach of perception?

اَلَّذِیْنَ یَلْمِزُوْنَ الْمُطَّوِّعِیْنَ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِیْنَ فِی الصَّدَقٰتِ وَ الَّذِیْنَ لَا یَجِدُوْنَ اِلَّا جُهْدَهُمْ فَیَسْخَرُوْنَ مِنْهُمْ١ؕ سَخِرَ اللّٰهُ مِنْهُمْ١٘ وَ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ اَلِیْمٌ ﴿٧٩﴾Open ayah 9:79 in the Quran reader

As for those who taunt the believers who voluntarily give alms and scoff at those who have nothing to give except what they earn through their hard toil, Allah scoffs at them in return. A grievous chastisement awaits them.

اِسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُمْ اَوْ لَا تَسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُمْ١ؕ اِنْ تَسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُمْ سَبْعِیْنَ مَرَّةً فَلَنْ یَّغْفِرَ اللّٰهُ لَهُمْ١ؕ ذٰلِكَ بِاَنَّهُمْ كَفَرُوْا بِاللّٰهِ وَ رَسُوْلِهٖ١ؕ وَ اللّٰهُ لَا یَهْدِی الْقَوْمَ الْفٰسِقِیْنَ۠ ﴿٨٠﴾Open ayah 9:80 in the Quran reader

(O Prophet!) It is the same whether or no you ask for their forgiveness. Even if you were to ask for forgiveness for them seventy times, Allah shall not forgive them. That is because they disbelieved in Allah and His Messenger; and Allah does not bestow His guidance on such evil-doing folk.
