36. Surah Yaseen

Ayahs 36:80–83

اِ۟لَّذِیْ جَعَلَ لَكُمْ مِّنَ الشَّجَرِ الْاَخْضَرِ نَارًا فَاِذَاۤ اَنْتُمْ مِّنْهُ تُوْقِدُوْنَ Open ayah 36:80 in the Quran reader

He it is Who created fire for you from the green tree, with which you kindle your fuel. 68

اَوَ لَیْسَ الَّذِیْ خَلَقَ السَّمٰوٰتِ وَ الْاَرْضَ بِقٰدِرٍ عَلٰۤى اَنْ یَّخْلُقَ مِثْلَهُمْ١ؐؕ بَلٰى١ۗ وَ هُوَ الْخَلّٰقُ الْعَلِیْمُ Open ayah 36:81 in the Quran reader

Is not He, Who created the heavens and the earth, able to create the like of them ? Why not, when He is the skilful Creator.

اِنَّمَاۤ اَمْرُهٗۤ اِذَاۤ اَرَادَ شَیْئًا اَنْ یَّقُوْلَ لَهٗ كُنْ فَیَكُوْنُ Open ayah 36:82 in the Quran reader

When He intends anything, He needs only say: 'Be', and it is.

فَسُبْحٰنَ الَّذِیْ بِیَدِهٖ مَلَكُوْتُ كُلِّ شَیْءٍ وَّ اِلَیْهِ تُرْجَعُوْنَ۠ Open ayah 36:83 in the Quran reader

Glorified is He in Whose hand is the absolute control of everything, and to Him you shall all be returned.

68 It either means that He has placed the inflammable matter in the green trees due to which people kindle fire from the pieces of wood. Or, it is an allusion to the markh and 'afar trees, whose green branches the Arabs struck against each other to produce the sparks. In ancient times the Bedouins used this method of kindling the fire and might even be using the same today.
