Supplication at the time of wearing new Dress or Shoes

Chapter 125 · 1 hadith

813[At-Tirmidhi and Abu Dawud]

Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: When Messenger of Allah (PBUH) wore a new garment, he would name it. For instance, a turban or shirt or cloak and would supplicate: "Allahumma lakal-hamdu, Anta kasautanihi, as'aluka khairahu wa khaira ma suni'a lahu, wa a'udhu bika min sharrihi wa sharri ma suni'a lahu (O Allah, all the praise is for You that You have given it to me to put on. I ask You its goodness and the goodness of the purpose for which it was made, and I seek Your Protection from its evil and the evil of the purpose for which it was made)."

Commentary

This Hadith tells us that we should recite the invocation taught by Messenger of Allah (PBUH) on wearing a new dress. Imam An-Nawawi argues that on wearing a new pair of shoes or something like that one should also recite this prayer.
